Proton Arcs and Tiger Stripes

STEVE over Roseneath
"STEVE" (Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement) lights up Scorpios beneath the galactic centre. The middle of the frame is due west!

This Auroral display was one of the most amazing things I have ever witnessed. Most of Tasmania was clouded but Ross cleared just as the Aurora was at its most active. The shots really don't do justice to the naked eye experience because of the sheer angular size and brightness of the lights. I was alone and whooping out loud as it was going off!!

STEVE above Ross
I’m now an official fan of the proton arc! It's nature’s double feature; wondrous naked eye and beautiful in photographs!

I shot these on historic Roseneath - where I was living at the time -between 10:30 and 12:30pm on 15th - 16/08/2015.

Hydrogen Arc

Proton Arc in the East
The view looking East, the arc passed above the zenith and the green 'stripes' crossed the SCP (42° above the horizon.)

Piano Keys
Piano Keys or Tiger Stripes (As they call them in Tassie!) with Auroral beams and beautiful night sky colours.
