Jumrum Creek, Kuranda QLD 2010 Acrylic on canvas 30"x40" NFS
|
After seeing the 3D movie Avatar in Cairns. I was driving back up the mountain to Kuranda, up through the lush wet tropics and I started to notice the real world as a spectacle, I was seeing it for the first time, again!
The painting is of Jumrum Creek, which winds through the backyard of my friends property. I lived on the grassy bank in my camper-van beside the creek when I first moved to Kuranda.
Lines on my mind:
The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. (From "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost)
And:
Winter has given them gold for silver To stain their water and bladed green for brown to line their banks (From Natural Music by Robinson Jeffers)
And the song "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" from "In Rainbows" by Radiohead:
|
In the deepest ocean The bottom of the sea Your eyes They turn me
Why should I stay here? Why should I stay?
I’d be crazy not to follow Follow where you lead Your eyes They turn me
Turn me on to phantoms I follow to the edge of the earth And fall off Yeah everybody leaves If they get the chance And this is my chance
I get eaten by the worms And weird fishes Picked over by the worms And weird fishes Weird fishes Weird fishes
Yeah I I’ll hit the bottom Hit the bottom and escape Escape And I I’ll hit the bottom Hit the bottom and escape Escape
